Why would one use a intergrated with ht bypass vs a preamp with ht bypass? Would like to know which is the best method i want to get better two channel sound while using an av reciver.

In my experience, when catering for a multi-channel setup, priority should be given to the protection of the conductor. Even after auditioning 3 separate AVR's, the same ambient sound of the room was still present! That told me the unwanted faint background signal noise I had been experiencing had nothing to do with the actual units. Therefore, my attention changed to the cables. And even then It was only on the third occasion after I finally purchased shielded cables that the noise floor within my small room finally came down to satisfactory levels. Cables often act as antennas for attracting RF, and the longer the cable, the better the antenna. Probably explains why when I used to disconnect my heights and surrounds within 10 minutes, the faint background signal noise (RF/EMI) within my small room used to disappear/dissipate. Trying to achieve a totally silent room sadly has turned into a bit of an obsession for me. Doesn't help when ones 2-channel stereo also entails an extra 7 channels that are externally amplified (5.2.4) The more cables I shield, the quieter my room becomes, and the better the shielding, the more the chance the cables are likely to disappear. If one has the same sensitivities and is looking to address this matter, but is also hoping to notice the incremental differences. I would suggest analogue cables of length first before moving on to digital and power cables. When friends or guests come over, I used to show them how loud the system goes. Now I prefer to press mute and show them how my quiet it goes. None of them gets it, of course 😂

I just got rid of my McIntosh Integrated for a Parasound P6 because I wanted to switch amps and I came across a good deal on a power amp and needed a preamp. I loved all the features (sub out, phono preamps, XLR, etc) of my Mac. The Parasound does most of what the Mac did, and in some cases (dedicated sub filter, etc) more. The Mac sounded more rich and the Parasound is leaner. Not thin, but not as syrup thick as the Mac. If I didn’t need all the features, the Parasound is great. I am seriously thinking about going to a Mac pre because I need more XLR inputs and the only Parasound pre with more XLR inputs does not have all the other features of the P6. All that to say, the Parasound is great and I would be 100% happy, but the XLR’s is becoming a deal breaker, for me. I also felt like the Mac gave my sub (and speakers…could have been the power section of the Mac though) more headroom. I also like the feel of the Parasound knob more, but I don’t like the linear volume stepping of the Parasound.

Something isn't right. The preamp is the single most important piece to get right in your system. You should have heard a major change. I don't know what the rest of your system is or things like personal taste in gear, but I do see one red flag. If you buy going by specs, you will lose every time. There is no standard that manufacturers have to go by when measuring they're gear, so they're left to do it however they see fit. Usually the cheaper they are, the better they measure. Maybe you screwed up somewhere else in your system like with your amp and speakers, but something is missing. If you have a friend that has some good equipment, see if he will let you try both preamps in his system.

Thinking of going Mogami as I would rather run a full loom of identical brand cable with decent quality plugs. Not sure why but your set up niggles me, the shelves, the wiring and labels, the angle your pre amp sits at, and is that the back wall its all residing on?

I have c399 and c658 in combination with primary a35.2. You are absolutely right, the soundstage is great but also more powerful than the Primare. If I compare it with the C399, I was a fool to choose this combination. primare sounds boring in terms of sound.

Dac is too good for youre set ..Denon c.mon

My SVS subs have built-in crossovers. I come out of my preamplifier to my subs and then to my amp. Works a treat.

I have the similar systems as you (eversolo A6 ME LPS+Denafrips Ares 12-1). I am not satisfied with eversolo USB, somehow noisy. I changed to NEO (created by OYAIDE) that I used before, reduced noise and enhanced vocal. Then, I got Cardas. It makes much difference. Absolutely gorgeous ! Thank you for your good information.

Very nice setup, congrats, no black ain't boring lol. NAD is awesome. I recently traded my C326BEE (mint) & I miss her dearly but such is life. I had it hooked up to an Amber Series 70 driving 2 Dahlquist DQ12 (I had 2 Jamo floor standers before on the NAD itself, sounded great too) & what an amazing sound! The C326BEE's stock 50W were plenty sufficient too, I just loved the extra detail, "oomph" and reserve the Series 70 had (70W x2 @ 8 Ohms)

Very interesting. I do own both the A6 and the Iris 12th. I currently use the Iris as a filter between the PC and the Eversolo and got very good results. I was considering the LPS upgrade but unsure if the resolution will be heard on my powered Klipsch speakers. I am considering upgrade to Genelec 8030's but this will not happen before 2025 I think.

I did bought the Micca cables to replace the more expensive(150euro on the second hand market) speaker cables that I usually use but with no luck. It was less bass output, almost no depth and width, heights were strange, no dynamics in comparison...... I really don't get the hype....

I would never ever spend thousands or even hundreds on cables and chords BUT if they do really improve sound I will do my research and find stuff that performs good at a reasonable price. That has led me to the Micca pure copper speaker wire which can’t be beat for the money. They sound great and they are built well. I also like the Monosaudio power chord that improves sound without breaking the bank.

I have a very similar setup but without the Iris. Are you going through the preamp or directly to the mono blocks and how much better is the sound with the Iris?

I also bought these after seeing Steve Huff's review. I tested them in both of my systems against Transparent, XLO and Anti-cables. They fared pretty well, but at the end of the day I stuck with my other cables. I still occasionally swap them into my smaller system (with the Anti-cable 2.1). I listen to a lot of folk music/singer-songwriter stuff, and the Miccas do a terrific job with vocals. But, compared to the Anti-cables, they are just a little soft on the top end and have slightly less impact in the bass. Overall, they are still incredibly good sounding and an easy recommendation for anyone looking for reasonably priced cables.

I just did the same: replaced the Mogami 3082 with the Micca speaker cables and you are 100% correct. Wow!

Wait, so what is this device you're measuring noise with?

Years ago I made my own speaker cables from Monoprice #2747 12ga speaker wire with Monster Cable ends, bananas on the amp end and spade lugs on the speaker end. I wasn't looking for any particular brand, and I haven't compared them to any other cables but now you got me wondering. I have to say, though, that one of the biggest improvements to my sound ever was adding the Ares 12th-1 DAC, the baby brother to your Pontus II. I also added the IRIS digital reclocker later.

I prefer skw speaker cables. I have Micca cables but the skw cables are better.

Why did you buy an expensive streamer if you thought that digital is digital? Surely its output would simply be binary? If you believe the streamer makes a difference to sound, then by extension USB cables do as well. What most naysayers fail to acknowledge is that the digital signal is transferred in the electrical domain that is the foundation of what the final analog signal is made from. You got a ddc and changed LSPs here and there because you knew that the purity of the electricity is critical to every component in your hifi chain. By connecting each component with a cable you're basically combining them into a single electrical system. The delivery of the signal through the usb cable puts a constant current from upstream to down, coupling them and affecting the ground within each. This ground is the same reference from which the analog signal is modulated from. Affect that in any way and you change the analog signal output. This is why different electrical characteristics of cables have a different resultant effect. And it's also why some hifi manufacturers put massively regulated supplies with enormous capacitor banks to try and produce as clean a power as possible. Even having separate digital grounds don't fix the problem. Possibly the only way is fiber usb connection, but that also introduces additional electronics to the system which could also have an effect. Nobody is arguing about the integrity of the digital signal - we know it's near 100% perfect transmission. It's the conduit which is the problem. Power is everything. If you change power supplies upstream in a ddc, for example, it will still affect the analog signal in the dac downstream via the cable. It's this specific coupling modulation of a specific cable which gives the tone and character. And this doesn't necessarily mean EMI or RFI or any other noise on the cable either - there can be none and the cable still imparts character as it couples the connected devices because it must do so electrically. This is why power cables also have a massive effect on components although again, there is little scientific understanding why this happens. And that's the problem with hifi - there is so little scientific understanding of why things happen, it's all trial and error until you find something that sounds good to you. There's only limited understanding of human hearing that I'd prefer to trust my own ears and believe cables make a difference rather than believe there's people who are blind and can use their tongues to make echo locating clicking sounds (there are, if you care to look it up). Anyway, it's great to see you tried and have come to your own conclusions. Here's an additional experiment you can also do if you have the equipment: get a pair of digital rca cables and listen to the digital output via your dac. Then switch them out and put them on the analog output of your dac to amp. You might find that it still carries the same sound signature across. This, again, is due to the nature in which the cable's electrical properties couple the attached components.

Hey, I tried the same mod as you did, but it didn’t work for me until I split the media converters. I moved one of them to the wall outlet about 15 feet away from my audio rack, and connected it to the other one in my rack with a 15-foot fiber cable. Then I used a shielded Cat6 cable from the second media converter to my streamer. That did the trick for me and I noticed a difference in the sound quality.

Thanks! Great video. Bass - I got Ares 2 12th-1 and the bass tone was not to my liking so moved up. I find Pontus 2 12th-1 slightly weighty in bass and also better definition. Ares sounded a bit harder/dryer in bass. It could be system dependent but pretty happy with Pontus 2 12th-1. Also possible that Ares was not properly broken in as I had it just for few days.

Wouldn't that be a wiring issue in the wall/socket?
